Der entlarvte Mensch / Constantin Brunner, p. 199. Quoted in To think is to live / Hans Goetz, p. 137.
In our view the state is the Christian-democratic cultum restraining the anarchistic natum which is always trying to break out of every human being. The natum, with its sophistries and its arrogance, reacts against the cultum; it is more and more culturally reactionary; it puts itself above Spirit, imagining that we can get along better without it, whereas in fact it is by Spirit that we live.
